Ecological Succession

Click here to view a very short animation about  ecological succession. What is the name of each stage? What is the difference between each stage?

Did you know that ecological succession can occur after a glacier has passed through an area? Watch this short, 3 part animation about succession in Glacier Bay, Alaska. Part 1, Part 2, Part 3.

  3. The videos on the bottom (parts 1,2 and 3) where quite interesting. I enjoyed watching and learning from them. The first one was a bit short. How fast did this evolution happen? the lake disappeared quite fast. Thanks Leslie!

  4. Wow. I never knew a pond could change....
can (negatively) ecological succession occur from human behavior, aka car exhaust that's being released to a pond

  10. the pictures are so cute! I like the Raccoon and the goldfish the best. They're lots of very different organisns living in the pond. I like "the pond" it helped me visualize it better.

  11. That is really interesting how glaciers can effect ecological sucsesion. It is also interesting to see ecological sucsesion spread around an area instead of life evolving in one area.
