I agree that we should stop cutting down the trees, but that's not as simple as it sounded in the article...
ReplyDeleteWe need the trees alive, but we also need the firewood in the winter, and the paper to write on.
I mean we could consume less, but humans are huge wasters, and habits aren't easily changed.
Deforestation is a really horrible thing to do. It really upsets me that people just don't care about the other organisms living on Earth.
ReplyDeletethe part of the article that shocks me most is that at the present rate of deforestation our rain forests could be completely vanished and that our future generations might never actually experience the beauty or importance and freshness of rain forests. trees do some much for us, and all we do is kill them and the animals that live there just for our own selfish purposes. i mean if all animals can live without ruining the environment why cant we? humans are earths greatest enemy.
ReplyDelete"Deforestation has many negative effects on the environment. The most dramatic impact is a loss of habitat for millions of species. Seventy percent of Earth’s land animals and plants live in forests, and many cannot survive the deforestation that destroys their homes."
ReplyDeleteSo are you saying we're eliminating species for space for humans? We really are dominating this planet.

1 century- no rain forests- no good. Nearly choked on food again!!!
ReplyDeleteI think people also destroy rain forests to get some sort of ore beneath the trees.
ReplyDeleteDeforestation is unavoidable due to limited resources on earth but can be limited to only what is needed to be cut down.

Deforestation is terrible, but it's really unavoidable, i mean we can try to stop it, but it will affect the world as we know it. If we stop cutting down trees, what will we write with and on, what will the coffee addicts drink?
ReplyDeleteWhat's terrible is that it's possible that one day in the future thing that are common now, will be endangered or extinct 100 years from now.

It really stinks that people have too cut lots of trees for paper and all those would products, but like the article said. Most of the slash and burning is only for clearong roads and having easier access to roads and stuff.
ReplyDeleteDeforestation really is quite horrible, but we do need the resources, so why don't people plant a tree for every couple (any amount) trees they cut down. It will lessen the amount of trees, but it won't be as drastic as plain deforestation. Its kind of hard to plant a tree and nurture it, much harder than cutting down a tree.
ReplyDeletethis article is rlly helpful since my topic is deforestiation. =) this blog is super helpful. makes science class less painful and more helpful. =)

Even though trees take a long time to grow, wouldn't it be more realistic to increase reforestation than decrease deforestation since we need more and more resources because our population is rapidly growing?
ReplyDeleteDeforestation is really bad, especially because humans need trees to survive on Earth. Trees release oxygen into the atmosphere and humans need oxygen for Cellular Respiration.
ReplyDeleteIt is kind of like we are killing ourselves...
Thanks for the link, it's really helpful!
ReplyDeleteI was also wondering, since one topic is "deforestation and flash flood" if you know of any good sites/sources for info on flash floods. :)
Deforestation is terrible! trees are organisms too and not to mention we need them to survive!!!
