  1. Scaaary. I knew the ozone layers depletion was causing ice to melt in Antartica, but I didn't know it could affect our health as well!

This was rlly helpful, I also read the SunWise Action Steps...

  2. The ozone layer kind of filters the strength of the sunlight instead of sending it directly from the sun to the earth's surface. So if the ozone layer becomes even more depleted, the chances of getting cancer will increase?

  3. How does the ozone replenish itself?

  4. I'm confused, is the o-zone layer thickening from global warming, or depleting because of the o-zone layer depletion?

  5. Why doesn't everyone just treat the environment well and then no one would have to worry about this stuff.

  6. Owen, the ozone layer is being depleted from global warming. This sends harsher UV rays to earth, increasing the chance of skin cancer. It also increases the amount of sunblock you should put on at the beach. :)

  7. This website was very useful, in a very simple language, easy to understand. Thank you Leslie for posting it.
I agree with Pia, this all could of been partially avoided... but like the movie we are watching in Ellen's class: No Impact Man, as we saw, it would be really hard not to have any impact on earth at all.

  8. @Owen: The Ozone layer is thinning/depleting from global warming. (I think...)

    And I second Pia's comment! : )

  9. The Montreal Protocol was made to protect the ozone layer from further harm, but how many countries have signed it? Also, September 16 is World Ozone Day.

  10. Yea the ozone layer is getting thinner from Global Warming so that more sunlight floods through to our atmosphere

  11. wow, a fire extinguisher contains halons which is an Ozone-Eating chemical???
So while putting out a fire, at the same time you could be destroying the Earth's Ozone Layer

  13. Why do we, humans, seem to create so many problems on Earth?
At least the Montreal Protocol will attempt to stop any more depletion of the ozone layer.

  14. so if scienetist found out that the ozone layer is desiapearing in 1980, then its not completely our (as in the generations )fault.

  16. Hi Leslie,

I was wondering if the the ozone layer could be replenished at all. And if it can, how long do you think it would take?

  17. I agree with Pia
We would never have this problem if we just treated the Earth well.

  20. This is kind of scary since it's 2010 now and UV rays are peaking. I think that something should be done to advertise the problem more.
