IBM Pursues $1,000 Personal Genome

Did you ever wonder what your genome looks like? Wouldn't it be fantastic if doctors could personalize medicine based on your own DNA?

Click here to read an article that explains how IBM is developing new technology that will make the process of decoding individual genomes much cheaper and faster.

Wow, technology is truly amazing! What do you think?

  1. Yes, I have wondered what a genome looks like... I would personally love it if doctors could personalize medicine only on my DNA. But, thinking about it, that would take a lot of work, and probably twice as long to do than normal medicine prescriptions.
Yes. Technology is truly wide, and amazing. From horse-drawn carriages, to fully self functioning cars? (Yes, there is such a thing). (I personally perfer horse-drawn carriages, but that's just me! :))
    Thanks Leslie!

  2. Wow, that's really cool that some companies are trying read people's genome! When they do come out, I'm definitely going to try to buy one! Who doesn't want to see what their own genome looks like?!

  3. Natalie, you love horses too much...
    :)
But then again, it's a free country and you're allowed to love whatever and whoever you want.

    I IS cool though...
But it would cost too much, even if they find a way to produce it quickly. UNLESS they can produce it as fast as the minting process that makes money we're not normally short on.

Investors, buy now and sell in 5-10 years when they find a way to mass produce it and create it quickly without hassle and high cost. :)
People, look at the bright side and the money side. If it's not bright green, don't go do that.

It's ironic that right after I posted a comment on this, the one before, I found the article about the 4000 year old man on Yahoo!
It's also a great site for Science news and so and so. Go to OMG for gossip on stars. (Hint Hint Leslie, can't deny your love for gossip) :)

  5. the computer language is a-little hard to understand but i think that when the technology comes out, people will appreciate it because they will be able to get better care if they know more about their genes

  6. I thought this was so cool. I mean think about what this could do for medicine. If they could personalize it to specifically fit you so many cures would work better on people and it could probably help find new cures to.

  8. But then won't you be able to make yourself look however you like? Does that mean you could make someone who is exactly the same? only soon there going to have something called make-a-baby where you can make your child look how ever you want!
