What is an obligate anaerobe? What does extremophile mean? Click here to read more about a unique kingdom of bacteria. The picture at the right was taken at the Midway Geyser Basin in Yellowstone National Park. The yellow coloring is caused by a particular type of archaebacteria that is known to survive at extremely high temperatures like those produced from a geyser.

did you know there are bacteria on mars that live off of a chemical in the planets ice caps?
ReplyDeleteI saw a documentary about Yellowstone Park, I think...
ReplyDeleteSomething like a super volcano w=runs underneath it...
The picture looks like mold, although it is a geyser. Also, my grandparents saw that geyser erupt when they went to Yellowstone. This is Roman.
ReplyDeleteNice picture it looks like old faithfull!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing that even with all our technology and knowledge, we can't even survive in or go to some of the places that the most simple organisms on earth can. We're so complex, we wouldn't be able to function in those conditions. It's kind of funny to think about!
ReplyDeleteI find it kind of surprising that some really, really uncomplicated organisms can withstand hot springs, boiling mud surrounding volcanoes and the bottom of the ocean. Humans are much more complex and we can't withstand those even with the advanced technology that we have!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome!! I can't believe archaebacteria can do those kinds of things. I'm definitely interested in learning more about them.
ReplyDeleteThat's so cool!
ReplyDeleteBut- what kingdom does the bacteria come from?
About what roman said, I definetly agree... it really DOES look mold...
ReplyDeletejees louis!!!! i cant believe little tiny bacteria can withstand all that heat and oxygen free places unlike us who are much bigger than them and we cant go in such hot places like that and we NEED oxygen. this i soooo wierd...
ReplyDeleteviv
the picture at the top looks like a meadow. by the way what is it? i better not be bacteria, because that will blow my mind
