Cancer is any malignant growth or tumor caused by abnormal and uncontrolled cell division; it may spread to other parts of the body through the lymphatic system or the blood stream.

Jiaming and i are doing the brochure project on breast cancer. so we know a little about cancer in general...
ReplyDeleteJiaming and Jamila
I wonder if there is a way to keep cells from breaking free from their restraints. If there is then would that be a cure for cancer?

After seeing the animation, i was really creeped out. I had an uncle and aunt that died of cancer, one of breast cancer and one with brain cancer. It really creeped me out to see the formation of the tumor. But know i know how she and he died, thanks.

This is amazing!! I didnt know that cancer was just from too many cells ;)Thanks Leslie!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love cancer cells
ReplyDeleteI can't wait till we get to it
Is/can there be a cancer that causes the body to produce too much white blood cells? And could this be used to help people with too little white blood cells?
ReplyDelete-Beejit Sarker 7E
I've always wondered what cancer really was, and now I know! Thanks Leslie!
ReplyDeleteI haven't known a person who has/had cancer but I did know a dog. :(
ReplyDeleteThat's a little scary. It makes death seem really close. >-<
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'm wondering, if you had family members with cancer, does that somehow..pass onto you? Does it increase your likelihood of getting cancer in the future? My mom's mom had pancreatic cancer and my dad's mom had throat (or something like that) cancer. :(
Beejit:
ReplyDeleteYes, there is, the disease is called leukemia. I'm not sure if it does help people with too little white blood cells though.
so cool! I dont really get how the cancer gets to you in the first place though.
ReplyDeletethis is so cool! now i can undertand sum stuff wen my moms talking about cancer 2 sum nurse or sumthing...i feel proud i can understand...
ReplyDeletethx leslie! this was soo interesting
thanks! this was helpful for me to learn about a really important issue!!!
ReplyDeleteI hope they find a cure soon..............
my oldest friend's mom got breast cancer and then my friend got cancer too!!
thankfully they both survived!

BJ, I think those extra white blood cells don't function normally so it won't help. My grand father had lung cancer. He passed on from pneumonia but the cancer left him weakened so he contracted pneumonia....
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I was wondering how do they rate your cancer stages. Is it based on how big the tumor is or how severe it is?

If cancer is only a group of somatic cells, how is it deadly or harmful?
ReplyDeleteI really liked reading the simplified version of what cancer is... It reminded me of when I was a little kid, everything was so simple and straight forward. Now, instead of 1+1=2, we have 2778 divided by 67787. :(
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for posting the animation and the article. They are very helpful! Thank you!
Couldn't cancer also be called uncontrolled apoptosis because the cells don't die?
ReplyDeleteon a brochure that was presented in our class (8TH PERIOD) the person presenting said that you can get cancer from obesity, how does that happen? my aunt died of breast cancer from smoking so i guess im into this topic. im doing a walk for breast cancer. (its in octor btw. =) i plan ahead.)

Cancer is very serious, and though we have so many foundations to support and fund cancer research, it will most likely be a long while until we find a cure. Not only that, but cancer patients should familiarize themselves with the numerous symptoms and precautions of cancer, which can range from being very simple to quite complex.
ReplyDeleteErin A. Flynn
Though there is not yet a cure for cancer, the safety procautions and symptoms help many women and men alike to detect a case of cancer. Though mostly in women, men may inherit or develop this disease as well.

The animations were very interesting, especially animations 3 and 5. Thanks Leslie!!

this kinda depressed me scaryyyyy-hannah
ReplyDeletethe animation definitly shows it. I know that when people get cancer, it will start off as one tumor, and later (around stage 3 or 4) there will be many, many tumors all over the body and it will be difficult to breathe. The original tumor will be really big, sometimes it will be an actuall lump that you can feel under the skin.
ReplyDeleteIt is really scary
OHHHH.
ReplyDeleteso it IS uncontrolled mitosis!
xD so i was right
which cell is mostly in tumors? white blood cells or red blood cells?
ReplyDeletesophia m 7f
My grandmother died from Breast Cancer.... so this is how it forms... :/
ReplyDeleteThanks... I understand how it's uncontrolled
This expanded my knowledge of mitosis and cancer!
ReplyDeleteThanks Leslie!
