This is really interesting! I learned a lot from it but there were still some things I had trouble understanding, but I'm sure we'll go over them in class. -Molly 7H
Genetics are so awesome! Its so cool how your genes pass down from one generation to another. Its so amazing how scientist are working on changing some genes so that hereditary diseases do not carry down between and offspring!
Genetic engineering also has negative sides. I read somewhere that tomato farms took a gene from a peanut and put it into a tomato. If somebody who was allergic to peanuts ate those tomatoes, they would have an allergic reaction and technically become allergic to tomatoes... New technology also has disadvantages so we have to be careful.
Cool! I read somewhere that when people have "test tube" children, when they are still developing, their parents can pick out certain diseases that they want their children to be immune to. Say that someone had a dog, they don't want their child to be allergic to dogs, so they pay the genetic engineering doctor to make sure their child is not allergic to dogs. BINGO! Problem solved.
ive wanted to be a geneticist as long as i can remember...im so excited to start genetics!!! yay....btw, even though this isnt related, i found this really cool article about this lady with cervical cancer who had IMMORTAL CELLS:
Genetics are really complicated and interesting, I was hearing all of these words that were confusing in the video! But the video gave me good background information on genetics. Thanks Leslie!
Radhika- there is an article in the last issue of popular science about that woman. if you didnt get that issue, you can go to the website. its really interesting!
We learned about genetics last year too! Dominant, recessive, punnett squares, Even about Mendel. Ms. Ristau taught us that. But we didn't go into mitosis stages or meiosis details either. I hope we learn about that.
ANd I do remember the article about the "immortal cells". It was cool. It helped make vaccines! But wasn't it illegal to take it without the patient's consent?
About what Henrietta was saying, some parents have designer babies. I think Doctors use GENETIC ENGENEERING to pick out the chromosones and cells in their chid. You should read the book MY SISTER'S KEEPER, the main character is a "designer baby" I think that sometimes using gennetic engeneering is a good thing but sometimes I think its not right Leila M. 7F
This video is really cool and understandable. It would be interesting to know how they figured out the structure of DNA and genes. I understand what Mendel did, but that's only the basics. Who else studied genes, and what did they find? -Claire, 7H

It is so cool how we have a pair of genes from each of our parents that makes us different from each other. That is pretty cool.

This video was a very good intro to genetics because genetics are very complicated and this made it easier to understand
