I think it's cool how different tree leaves turn different colors. I wonder why some trees stay the same color year round, like ever-greens that stay green and some japanese trees that have dark purplish reddish leaves.
i have always wondered why leaves change color it on of those things you wonder but really get the awnser to well i just did!! thanks 1 of those question checked of my list! but theres many more....
i understand how the chlorophyll will chane color but why do some trees stay the same? like evergreen trees. is it because of it has some kind of special chloropyll or wat?
Woah! That's so amazing! So Chlorophyll is just like a cover up or disguise for all the colors underneath! wow... Maybe the japanese maple tree(my fave tree!) doesn't change color, and stays the same color because the chlorophyll isn't as dominant as some other pigments that make colors. I'm not so sure about the Evergreen. Could it possibly be because of the texture and size of the leaves? Evergreen leaves are narrow, with bumps every so often, so that could affect it... but I don't know. I wonder... does the Stroma in some leaves make them brownish? In our wksheet, it said that it helps with the dark part of photosynthesis. I also think that its very cool that trees can sense/"know" when winter is coming... perhaps you could elaborate on that in class? I think it would be cool to learn about, since it is quite relevant to the material we are learning in class.
i think the japenesse plants emily referin to are called japenese maples my mom has one, it stay purpleis red all year exept when the leaves fall off then theres just well purple on the ground!
Wait, so why do Evergreens stay green all year?

ReplyDeleteThe green color comes from chlorophyll. Where are the red and yellow colors coming from?
